Q: Why does the iPhone 5c display wrong time?

My iphone 5c currently started displaying the wrong time. I hadnt updated the software yet and thought this was the source of the issue. After the update was complete the time was still incorrect. I have tried syncing my phone with itunes, deleting world clocks, doing hard resets, even wiped the phone back to factory settings. Nothing has worked

    Hi nscott20,

I may not be able to offer a solution to your problem, but I can give you some advice. The issue is a problem with the processor on the iPhone itself. It often pairs with issues such as GPS failing and Bluetooth and WiFi no longer working like they used to. Its to do with the processor failing and due to this, sometimes you won't be able to fix the issue through software. I have spoken to Apple and it doesn't look good. I live in the UK, and the repair required is for them to change the mainboard on the phone, which through Apple, will cost £206.44 plus fees. Sorry for the blow but I hope I could help!

I had this problem with setting the default time on my iPhone5 recently and i tried all the suggestions on many sites and absolutely nothing worked . I could NOT reset the correct time no matter what I tried. Then, just now,in desperation I went to Settings> General and hit the reset all settings button and, Haleluiah!!!, it worked and my phone was back to the correct time. I know this sounds ridiculously simple but, honestly, I was going nuts trying to change the time and this worked for me. So,there.

My iPhone 5s is running 12 seconds fast. I can turn off auto set time, change the time so the seconds change and then turn on auto-set and the time reverts back to being 12 seconds fast.  It does so even if the phone is in airplane mode.  I have no idea how it sets the time when it's in airplane mode.  I've already tried airplane mode with Wifi as well as not in airplane mode with Wifi off.  It doesn't matter.  I've pulled the sim out too..

i haven't tried turning off location services since it's already on and the phone has the correct time zone.  It's just the time is off slightly.  I called Apple and they basically didn't have a clue.  They said its normal for the time to be off slightly because it takes longer for the time signals to go over the air.  That sounds like BS to me since we're talking milliseconds for that.

I have an iPad Air 2 with the correct time (matches time.gov).

I've been having this problem for almost a month now, and it's ridiculous. I called an Apple store and that didn't help me at all. Every time my phone is off, it goes to some random time, so I have to keep it on all day.Plus I have to do it manually because whenever I put it on my time zone, it's totally off. Now I have to use an actual alarm clock to wake up now. And I paid so much for this dumb phone and I've only had it a little over a year. I feel like mine was working fine up until 8.3 too, and I thought 9 would fix it but it didn't. And I tried resetting it the "hard" and "soft" way, none of that worked.

OK so these is the solution, finally I found. Go to appstore on your iphone, scroll down to Apple ID , > see Apple ID> put your password> Then go to cuntry/Region > change cuntry/region > re-select your cuntry , then  follow all steps "Its important " then on your phone go to data and date on settings , and change automatic to manual, and then automatic . In a few minutes these take effect ,

    enjoy it

This is 100% a hardware issue! Affects wifi, bluetooth, gps and date/time, which then affects imessage, clock app, reminders, calendar, etc...

Just as frustrating as the iPhone 4S issue with greyed out wifi! Put it in the freezer and it will work! lol

So much advice but none will work. If it did, you do not have this problem, you just had your settings out of whack!

No IOS update will fix this! Best to try and sell it cheap!

I have had this same issue for over a month, tried all suggestions and been into the Apple store to no avail. However, I tried two things, one after the other, and it's now working! It's held time and date for three days now so I'm positive it's fixed.

I turned airoplane mode on and off and then turned off Wifi Assit. Hope this helps

The time on my iPhone 5c only seems to work when my phone is on. In other words, if its 5 o'clock on my phone and i use it until 6 o'clock the time will say 6 o'clock but if its 5 o'clock and i dont use it and when it gets to 6 o'clock, the time on my phone will still say 5 o'clock. Please help me

I also believe it is a Hardware problem. And to be specific it's something with the location services (GPS).

When the Date is configured to "Set automatically", the phone tries to find its location but it can't, so it gets stuck trying to update the date and the time does not move forward.

Workaround: Disable location services and set the Date manually, the clock will run correctly. But you won't be able to find your location in apps that need it.

Apple should definitely fix this sort of HW issues. There's is no need to buy a new phone, my iPhone 5c is only 2 years old. I'll go to the Apple store tomorrow and see what they say.

my 5c is doing the same thing. I tried everything to fix it. Im not 100% sure but I do believe it is a hardware issue. I say that because i have "fixed" the wrong time/date, poor wifi connectivity, blue tooth is back and working, and iMessages is working again. You might wonder what i did to "fix" my phone. Last night when i was surfing the web, on wifi, i got tired of the web pages not loading and having to refresh over and over and over and then i just snapped. I took my phone and tried to fold it in half! yes that right, I bent the phone in the direction of the front facing camera toward the home button. I broke the glass, but not the screen, in pure anger and frustration. This morning i noticed that the time/date and everything else that was wrong is now working perfectly. I do have to put up with getting glass in my fingers now, but my phone works. Im not sure if anyone else will try this but if you're just about to get a new phone and want to give it try, go for it. let me know if you are successful in "fixing" your phone. haha. Now i want to fix the glass and sell my phone ASAP. I'd love to trade it into verizon and let it become their problem. hahaha.

Hey guys if your iPhone 5c doesn't disply the right time or gps is not working and bluetooth dosent work and the wifi is going out and reconnecting it is most likely that you have damaged your main motherboard on your device.

    You can not fix it.

The cumbersome turn on/off auto time and locations or reboot or reset your phone sometimes give a very temporary relief.

I have done everything suggested in this thread, everything suggested by other threads, everything suggested by customer service and by friends.

Anything you do to try to fix it will at best be a temporary fix.

This is not a matter of your settings.  It is not a software issue.  My phone and yours have hardware problems.  One person in this thread mentioned that you can tae it back to the store under warranty BUT if you replaced the screen, it can be related to the problem and it apple will tell you it is your fault.  In my case, I bought a used iPhone an replaced the screen.  The only solution is to where a watch.  Missed messages from people not in my contacts and other issues just are.
