When a message is sent to me I receive it fine, but the sender gets the message that the text was not sent "message failure". Happening to all the people sending me messages. What is going on?
iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1
When this happens it means the acknowledgement message that goes back to the sender isn't delivered - could be you're on a corporate wifi that blocks certain ports.
Need more info to be certain... who is your cellular provider, does it happen on wifi & cellular, or just one?
I have verizon. It happens with both cellular and wifi. Imessage works fine.
If iMessage works fine, then the problem is with SMS. WiFi is not relevant as SMS is only sent over cellular (voice). Is everyone who is sending you an SMS getting this message? Or just some people? Are they all on the same carrier?
it appears now (after exhaustive research) that it is just my son and husband who are on my same icloud. Son is on my verizon account, but husband is not.
If you have Verizon, and someone tries to iMessage you while you're on the phone they will get the undeliverable message. This is because you can't use Voice and Data at same time.

In all the years I've have Verizon, I've never experienced that. I've never even heard of it before. The system will generally keep trying to deliver a message for about 24 hours. So, unless they were on a data connection for a very long time, that shouldn't happen. Also, the OP is reporting that the messages are getting through.
