Stop the mail...

In the General Pane in OSX Mail, I have it set to "Manually" for "Check for new messages. However, when I Wake the computer, the entire computer goes off into this never never land of being non-responsive for nearly five minutes while it connects to Wif, mouse and kybrd, check mail and calendars and Gawd Knows what else it's doing.

I've tried numerous times to sniff out the active processes using Activity Monitor but nothing seems to be using much cpu capacity.

I'm a 2GHz i7 with 4GB RAM MBP with traditional 500 GB HD.

Thanks!
