How do I get my iphone 4s to go to speaker audio when not on phone...ie. listening back to notes I have recorded? It seems I can only access the speaker when I am on the phone.

Thank you for the question. It sounds like you are trying to listen to your Voice Memos on your iPhone using the speaker so that you don’t have to hold your iPhone to your ear.
Enabling the speaker is specific to each app. When using the Voice Memo app, you can tap the speaker icon in the upper right hand corner to enable or disable the speaker. When the speaker icon is blue, audio should play through your speaker:
