I use Google Voice for my voice mail instead of my carrier's voice mail. It will send me a text and/or an email when I get a voice message. If it can, it transcribes the message. It's free.
I have not used the following and haven't spent much time looking at it but from what I can gather, it seems to work based on missed call forwarding and claims to be officially supported by AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint and does include the voicemail to email feature.

You get a notification sound for emails? Or if you look at your phone you will see the red notification.

You can ask AT&T.
No app would be able to do that for security purpose.
I don't believe an app to do this would have access to the necessary APIs. Some carriers offer services similar to this. I don't believe AT&T does. I've been with them for years.
That sounds perfect. I checked and can use Google Lite (without taking a Google number) to use its voicemail messaging system. Thanks.
I actually have a GV number and 2 cellular phones. I use the same GV voice mail for all of them. It's great.
