Thank you so much. My Ipod Touch 5th gen's home button quit and I was able to follow the directions to turn on the Assistive touch.
You can still get it serviced at an out of warranty cost (cheaper than buying a new one usually).

Hi all,
Now my Ipod 5's home button is on strike now, and it just refuses to budge no matter what I do to it, including Crumas' idea of blowing into the sync port and application of alcohol, the button simply refuses to budge. Thus, I would like to ask whether anyone has successfully managed to fix this issue without using alcohol or blowing into the sync port?
@Crumas the issue appears not to be dust under the port, because the button appears to sink in. Correct me if I am wrong, but if there is dust the button should stick out.
Thank you! I would appreciate replies that will hopefully help me resolve this issue. I am in a dilemma whether I should throw the Ipod away; the screen functions perfectly, yet the device is rendered useless because of the home button.
Yours sincerely,
