May 9, 2014 6:49 PM in response to Darius 23by Killerqueen727,We had the same problem. The Apple store advised that a 12-watt charger is required. Our old cables worked just fine until recently. I'm not sure if it was due to the ios update or not, and Apple wasn't sure, either. They gave us the 12-watt, and the problem was solved.

Aug 4, 2014 10:11 AM in response to Darius 23by marco12345,My mom's iPad2 started exhibiting the same behavior.
Frist it was updated with iOS 7.1.2 and it stopped working (turned itself off) after a few minutes, pressing the power button or closing the magnetic lid.
A restart was needed to turn the iPad on, pressing the power and home button at the same time until the apple logo appears.
The iPad worked well until locked, previous step is needed to use it again.
Unfortunately now it ran out of battery and just won't charge. I have to do the reset procedure to see the red battery icon but when the screen goes off, the iPad stops charging. Now it's very difficult to change the iPad because it's required to press the home button a every few seconds to prevent the iPad from going to the sleep mode and inevitable in this unresponsive mode.
From the Logs I noticed that the iPad is resetting for a wdog reset, the reset counter went up every time I was able to turn it on before the battery got depleted.
Now I have a dead iPad unable to charge or reset or be reestablish because this wdog reset. I turned off all the apps to make sure none of them was hanging and causing the wdog to bite. The wdog happens when the iPad is asleep, the lid is closed or the power button is pressed.
Please Apple, have some professional personnel respond to this message with a useful response. Not a copy & paste of your commonn reponces, I have tryed them all and don't work for this problem. iPads don't come chip and my mom's made her very happy while it worked.
Looking forward for your response!

This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple.
Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good. If your computer/iTunes does not recognize the iPad, then the cable is probably bad.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

Aug 4, 2014 1:56 PM in response to Texas Mac Manby marco12345,Thanks Tom for taking the time to let me know that I'm not writing to Apple.
Do you know what a wdog reset is? How often happens? Do you have a program that I can use to stop it?
I have tried all the copy & paste you took the time to gather and present here with no success. Actually resetting the iPad is not even possible now.
I have tried with a 2013 iMac and not even its ports can charge the iPad because the wdog reset is not allowing the charging function to work.

Marco

Aug 6, 2014 7:12 AM in response to Darius 23by alexeifromchicago,I think I have exactly the same issue with my iPad - keeps rebooting and not charging while battery almost drained. it seems that iPad starts booting itself while the charge in the battery is not enough for complete boot and as soon it gets to the locked scree it recycles. Is there a way to shut off iPad completely so it would not turn itself on until the battery completely charged? thank you

Aug 31, 2015 6:30 AM in response to Darius 23by t.yevtukh,I just recently had this same problem, and tried many things and heres the fix that worked for me (i guess the reason why it does this is because the battery was dead, and the iPad doesn't have enough power to charge up :
Once the apple icon screen appears press and hold the home button until the screen with the charger wire shows up. (as if you were going to restore it) then plug it into an outlet and let it charge with that screen on. (you can prob also try to leave plugged into the charger while you press the home button to get to the wire screen) it worked for me.(i had it plugged in a car charger) I tried another method posted online that involves 30-40 attempts of pressing the top button to try to unlock really quick but it didn't work for me. it reset too fast.
Let me know if this works for you.

May 30, 2016 8:22 PM in response to marco12345by Turtle05,I know this is a really old thread, but in case anyone sees this, I feel like I must respond. Your post helped immensely. Everything I read was all "hard restart," but that wasn't working because there wasn't enough battery. My iPad literally died, not "got to 50% and suddenly went to 0" like many others. So I had it plugged in and it kept restarting. I tried the hard reset probably 100 times, and no, I am not exaggerating. While I had to go work night shift, my sweet husband called Apple support, and really got no more information than we already had. This was on a Friday night. The tech recommended he go to the Apple store. He got to the Apple store right when it was supposed to open, and there were already about 50 people inside (yeah, anyone who's ever been in an Apple store knows that's probably the truth). Well, he was told he needed an appointment, and they could maybe see him in two hours. He just decided to buy a new iPad (what a sweet guy, right?!). Ok, so problem solved, but I was still annoyed at my dead iPad. Even though it's nearly 4 years old, it did not have any issues before this, and the fact that I actually watched the battery dwindle down (ok in my defense, it was plugged in while I was reading on my Kindle. I was mid-chapter guys!), I was unconvinced that it was a lost cause. So to bring this long story to a close, I stumbled across this post and had the idea of sitting with my iPad while it was plugged in and basically continually hit the home button to prevent the constant restarting. Well folks, it worked, and after maybe 15-20 minutes of that, my iPad had just enough charge to stay on! It is currently charging. So, if anyone comes across this same problem, do not fret and try the aforementioned if hard resetting 100 times doesn't work for you.

Jul 7, 2016 8:20 AM in response to rvampzby Turtle05,Yes, that worked for me anyways. I think it took around 15-20 of constantly pushing the home button every 3-5 seconds.
