What if you get the message with another app or webmail?
Ask the sender the format of the graphics. It sounds like the app you are using does not recognize that format.
I open in Google web mail but going to the web page opens it but not in the email direct.
Is "Google web mail" an app purchased for the Mac App store?
If in webmail can you right click on the image and determine the format?
No. I go to the google website then I sign in to my email no app used. Right clicking does not show the format.

I thought that meant you went to webmail
It means I click to go to their website which opens the graphic but will not open in the email. It will not open in the email but allows you to go to the website and open it.
That sounsds like a link to an image
It is but not working for me.
