Why have my dock icons gone dark?
The icons in my dock suddenly went dark. Only one is lit, but not even one that I'm using. Why? How do I fix this?
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.0GHz, aluminum unibody, late 2008

The indicator light under each icon means the app associated with that icon is open.
No light, the apps aren't running.
Make sure Show indicator lights for open applications is selected in System Preferences > Dock
No, the indicator lights aren't an issue. They're working as they should.
The issue is that all icons in the dock are darkened, save one (mail), which is lit as if entirely spotlighted, regardless of whether in use. Other than mail, *all* application icons have suddenly become dark. If in use, the tiny indicator light shows at the bottom, but the icon remains very, very dark. Even the trash icon is dark. This is new. I'm not new. The dock is not supposed to look like this. I've no idea what's caused it or how to remedy it.
