Can I disable mms for a specific contact so that I only send them plain text messages?

I have a friend who tells me that his data plan doesn't support receiving multimedia messages. He gets notified when I text him but he can't read the message, so he calls me. I know I can disable mms entirely but I don't want to do that. Is there a way I can exempt his contact from mms so that I only send him plain text messages by default?
