After my son updated the computer, I got this message when I tried to open Word. "You can’t open the application “Microsoft Word” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." How do I get my Word working again?

You must purchase a newer version of MS Office, the version you had was MS Office 2004, you need to upgrade to MS Office 2008 or later. Your files will work fine however all PPC based applications will not work in OS X 10.7.x (Lion) or later. Next time around you will need to advise your son to check to see if all your applicatiosn will run on the version of OS X he is contemplating upgrading to. Think of it this way, Office was 10 years old....you got your moneys worth out it.
