Alesis dm5 pro kit

Hey, what is the quickest and easiest way to connect my alesis dm5 pro kit to garage band? Is it as simple as an audio lead from the headphone out on my drums to the line in on the mac?

Cheers.

How old is your iMac?

On some macs manufactured before 2012 the headphone port could be used as dual input/output port.

If that is not possible on your iMac, use an audio interface to turn an USB port into an audio port:

The most basic solution would be the iMic adapter, see: Recording with iMic in GarageBand

Only, HangTime reported to have encountered up to half a second of latency with the iMic.

See Re: How can I play my electric guitar through GB?

I am quite happy with the Apogee Jam, but there are quite a few others - have a look at the Bullets&Bones FAQ: http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Interfaces.html

If it is a late 2012 iMac you are most likely out of luck.

You can see in the System Preferences, if you headphone port allows input, see the screenshot in Edgar's post:
