Google Chrome starting on new tab page

Hello all,

When I shut down my computer - MacBook Pro - 15" retina display - and then start it up again later, Google Chrome opens to a new tab page. If I quit Chrome, then start it again, it then opens up to the set of tabs that I designated in my settings. I've tried clearing the browser cache and even uninstalling/reinstalling Chrome to no avail. Does anyone know how I can fix that issue?
