The best printer for the MacBook Air is the one that meets your price/usage needs...virtually all modern printers are compatible, you have to decide how much money you want to spend, which leads to the class of printer. Do you want print/scan/copy, print only, liquid ink (inkjet and the like), laser, blackk and white, color? All things to think about. Then do you want wireless, accessible from an iOS device, whch requires that it be AirPrint enabled.
Almost any modern printer from sources like HP, Epson, Brother, Canon and on will work, though you do need to check to be sure about the AirPrint capability.
As far as Cox is concerned, if you are having issues with service from Cox you will need to discuss their systems settings needs with them...and then make sure your Mac is setup accordingly.

If you need AirPrint capability see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356 as the starting point.
