Home Screen Won't Stop Loading

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 5S. I set up the phone from a backup of my old phone and everything went fine. However, there is one of those spinning loading icons at the top next to my WiFi icon that will not go away. It is there whenever I am on my Home screen but disappears anytime I open an app. My battery seems to be draining quite quickly and I have no idea how to solve this problem. I have used the multitasking feature to close all my apps and it is still there so I have no clue what to do at this point...

Anyone know what is happening?

I tried the reset and hard reset. Didn't work. Even tried turning my phone off all night only to find that I still had the issue in the morning. I was getting very upset but tried figuring it out on my own. Tried a couple things, nothing. Closed all apps, turned off background refresh, deleted an app or two that I thought May have been the issue, nope. THEN I remembered that while in my hotel yesterday I had tried downloading an app. The hotel wifi was so bad and it was taking forever to download. I decided it wasn't worth the wait and terminated the download the same way you would delete an app. That made me think that the phone was somehow still downloading the app. I went to the App Store, directed myself to Netflix, (because that's what I stopped downloading) and re-downloaded it. As soon as Netflix was fully downloaded the loading symbol stopped and it's been gone since! (Except, obviously, when loading something else)

It was killing my battery but have not noticed any issues in the hours since.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?

Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.

Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

No data will be lost.
