photostream not syncing correctly between computers

i am trying to figure out what is going on with my iPhone, MBP, Mac Pro PhotoSync and the more i try to figure this out the hairier it all gets.

does anyone know why i would have 3278 images in my 2013 PhotoStream folder on my MacBook Pro with only 3226 in the 2013 Photostream folder on my Mac Pro.

i have checked to see that i have all months Jan 2013 to Dec 2013 in each folder and short of comparing each Album Month on each computer to see how many photos are in each i am not sure what to do.

i mean, i do have other issues in that i only have 1 month in 2012 on the MBP and four months on the Mac Pro as well as the issue that i am showing an April 2014 on the Mac Pro which is not also showing on the MBP so - well, i guess all this is hairy enough without going into more issues.

anyway, i am on MOUNTAIN LION on the Mac Pro and on Mavericks on the MBP and i have PhotoSync on in Aperture in both computers and i have the Settings > iCloud > Photo > PhotoStream setting on on my iPhone. i also have Wifi enabled on the iPhone and the MacBook Pro and both have been connected to my home network for some time now...

restart the MBP? i am at a total loss at this point.

TIA

léonie - more photostream sync issues :-). Only you might understand this one.

After an Aperture database rebuild I lost 80% of my shared photo streams (I don't use "My Photo Stream"). A few thousands photostream images showed up in a recovery folder. The originals were fine. I deleted them but I wouldn't mind restoring my photostreams.

I have backups of course -- backups of Aperture and of User/[me]/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/pub.

I don't know a way, however, to force the backups to update photostream in iCloud. I'd be ok with losing whatever I'd added since the backups.

If you don't know how to do this I'll give it up. This just reinforces my deep suspicion of Apple's ability to manage sync (which is admittedly a horrifically hard problem).

great. i just checked all 12 months in 2013 on both my machines. here is just a sampling of results.

number of images in the Monthly "PhotoStream" Project on the MBP (mavericks) is on left, number of images on the Mac Pro is on the right

i can't figure out if there was an inadvertent setting on one or both of these machines at some point or what but it /appears/ that some folders on one machine have more images while other folders on the other machine have more images.

note that i /primarly/ use the Mac Pro to import my library but i have accidentally imported images into the MBP and deleted them at a later date once they were imported to the Mac Pro. that said, i have no idea why the images - or if the images - would get imported to photostream when i am importing them to my aperture library by manually syncing...

You have been working with several Aperture libraries, right?

"My Photo Stream" will only sync with one Aperture or iPhoto library at a time. If you did not open the library, that is syncing with the photo stream for some time, you may miss some photos in the monthly imports. They may have been already removed from the Photo Stream, by the time you are using the library again.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989

Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so all devices may not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream.

You may want to look at the manual page http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=14%26se ction=2

See the paragraph: To switch Photo Stream to another Aperture library

I'd check, if the missing photos in your monthly projects have been imported to another library on the same computer, if you have been switching between libraries in Aperture or iPhoto, and also switched the photo stream to the other library.

hi leonie. reading everything here as soon as you post it. the only thing i have to go over is the manual page you linked and i can do this tomorrow AM.

can i /please/ (PLEASE) ask you to just review the questions here and give brief answers?:

i only have ONE library per computer. i import images to the Mac Pro and i sync images from a discrete set of albums that i store on the MBP. since i SYNC my phone to iTunes on the MBP it only made sense to select a "iPhone Sync" folder that i store in Aperture on the MBP and simply move any images that i want on the phone into this set of Projects in this folder on my MBP. i think that makes sense.

[i /have/ occassionally accidentally imported images into the Aperture Library on the MBP but this doesn't matter at all since i just make sure not to delete them off the phone and then i delete the Project on MBP and i import all the images into the library on the Mac Pro so this is totally irrelevant AFAIK]

i need to solve the issue of why images are not getting synced to PhotoStream on the MBP and why they are getting synced on the Mac Pro and in the link above i think i have figured out that the "non-sync" between the PhotoStream Projects on the MBP and Mac Pro is basically due to having the automatic upload checked accidentally (and probably adding images to the Photostream Folders in some months on the two computers but also - i guess - due to PhotoStream not syncing images from my iPhone to one or another computer for reasons i basically do not understand).

ANYWAY, in the link i am asking questions in order to see if i can DELETE ALL PHOTOSTREAM ALBUMS from my two computers, start over, and not lose any data...
