Q: My Iphone 5 disconnects and connects automatically repeatedly on windows 8.

Dear Apple Support Team,

 

When I connect my iphone 5 to my windows 8 laptop, it disconnects and reconnects repeatedly. I am not able to do anything.

itunes shows the error code

0x8000084

 

I uninstalled the itunes and downloaded the latest version but I still have the same issue.

    Hello Kelly1gh,

     

    It sounds like you are plugging in your phone to your computer, and it keeps acting like it is being plugged in and unplugged over and over. I recommend troubleshooting the USB on the computer with this article:

    1. See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
      Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
    2. Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
    3. If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
    4. Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
      These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    5. Restart your computer.
    6. Restart your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
    7. If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
    8. Update to the latest version of iTunes if you have not already.
    9. Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.

    If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.

    Dear Austin,

     

    Thnx so much for your message. but unfortunately, it didn't work. I tried it on a different laptop running windows 8 and it worked. I dont know if there is a driver I have to install. Ive uninstalled my itunes and reinstalled it several times but still the same issue.

     

    Please is there any other assistance you can offer me?

    I had this problem and it was very odd in the way it suddenly appeared. After much googling with no definitive answers I ended up fixing it by slightly pressing (and bending) the hollow side of the USB plug to make sure it grips onto the connectors properly. This has completely fixed it for me. I would suggest anyone with this problem should investigate cabling, especially how well the USB plug sits inside the USB port of the computer.

    I really thank you for  the info. I got tired of this problem. I had googled tuns of websites looking for a solution; finally i tried your one and it worked well. I pressed the hollow side of the USB as you said and it was amazing to connect my iphone and sync it again.

    I am having this problem and it's driving me nuts. It doesn't matter which cable I use, which makes me thing it's either the lightning port on the iPhone or my USB ports on the motherboard going bad. Could you please explain what you mean by pressing the hollow side of the USB? Thanks.

     

    Apparently syncing through Wi-Fi works though - although it's very slow...

    Provided you have already isolated the issue by using only an original Apple USB to lightning cable, the only thing I can think of that might be to blame for a bad connection is a loose USB port on the computer, hence my suggestion of (gently) bending the hollow side of the USB connector so that it grips more strongly onto the pins inside the usb port. Obviously you have to be careful not to bend it too much.

     

    I would also suggest trying a powered USB hub as I suspect the constant disconnects are due to a charging issue (my phone did it a lot more after having being discharged but never when 100% charged).

     

    I have never experienced this issue since syncing and powering my iPhone 5s with a powered USB hub.

    OK, I see, thanks. I suspect my USB ports are going bad, I may try an internal card and see if it solves the issue. For now wifi syncing works (although it'a bit slow...). Thanks!
