Q: iMessage Inactive

I've been trying to set up iMessage on my computer for a while. I've finally verified my email for my Apple ID and everything, and then signed into iMessage. But whenever I try to send a text through iMessage on the computer, a box pops up and says I need to sign in. I found that, in the box where I type, it says "iMessage (inactive)". I have tried signing out and signing back in, disenabling iMessage then enabling it again, but it doesn't work. iMessage still works fine on my iTouch, just not on the computer. Anyone have any ideas?

FIXED!!! After three hours trying to get this to work this is what fixed it: Restart using a PRAM/NVRAM reset ? (HOLD the ALT+CMD+P+R keys down at restart until you have heard three start up bongs then releases and allow it to boot). I literally tried everything else you suggested on this and other posts Ralph, but this was the ticket.

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to chime-in here and tell you that I've also been having this issue for the longest time, and not quite sure yet what caused it.

However Ralph Johns, thank you for your suggestion.  "Restart using a PRAM/NVRAM reset ? (HOLD the ALT+CMD+P+R keys down at restart until you have heard three start up bongs then releases and allow it to boot)" also worked for me.

    Thanks a million.

    Andrej

Had this problem. Searched the comments in this post. Fixed the problem myself. My Apple ID needed to be verified/authenticated by updating my credit card information IN THE ITUNES APPLICATION.  I tried updating my passwords on my iCloud in every way possible and checked the region, but it wasn't until I went into iTunes and went to the Account where I was required to authenticate the credit card on file that iMessage finally started working again.

Note: When I updated my iTunes account, I went back to my account on iMessage on my computer and it didn't work at first. I had been trying to login with just the first part of my Apple ID (sans "@me.com").  I reentered my whole Apple ID and password and this time it worked.  It could have been that the account information hadn't updated to the application from iTunes yet, but I think it was reentering the whole ID that worked, as that is what I always enter every time I enter my ID.  I had only been trying the stem part of my ID because I was trying many different ways to login, that being one of many.

    Hi,

If the app is not logging in in the first place to the iMessages servers (there is no way to tell it is not logged in in some cases until you try to send something) then start a new Thread.

You will notice that joined the Thread in early Sept with an issue that did not match the Original Question.

    Hi,

Try Enabling the Bonjour Account and see if that make s the iMessages login properly.

If it does you can turn Off the Bonjour one.
