Upgrading apps on multiple devices

I upgraded some apps on my iPhone. On my iPad they are not upgraded. When I go to upgrade, it asks me to pay again. Is there something I need to do? Thanks!

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1
