bookmarks bar vs favorite bar

What is the difference between these?

I sometimes bookmark an item on my iPad but it shows in a different file on my Mac.

Getting ready to get a new iMac and want to understand Safari better. When I am at a site, I bookmark and save in favorites but should be saving as a bookmark instead of a favorite, correct?

Anyone can send me info/link to get this straight before I set up the new Mac?

Thanks,

Don

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), two OWC external drives.

To keep bookmarks folders in alphabetical order you have manually drag it up or down.

To sort bookmarks inside a folder try this.

Hope you have the Bookmarks in folder or folders.

Click the Book icon in the Safari Favorites Bar to show the sidebar.

Drag the Bookmarks folder on to the desktop left of the Safari window.

Drag it back to the side bar and drop where you see the thin blue line.

Now there will be two folders with identical names, one sorted and other not sorted.

Right click the unsorted one and select “Move to Trash”.

Right click the folder on the Desktop and select “Move to Trash”.
