Rec for backup drive for Mavericks IMAC - little data?

Just bought my first Mac and want to purchase a backup drive that uses time machine. I am not a heavy duty user and probably will never be. Imovie and surfing the internet mostly. Any help is appreciated.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Any external HD will work, a general rule of thumb is to get one that is 1.5x to 2.5x the size of the internal HD to ensure you have lots of storage. The only brand I woudl recommend staying away from is WD, their enclosures tend to have a lot of issues with Macs. If you want a high quality and reasonable priced drive then look at OWC's Mercury Elite Pro series available from OWC at www.macsales.com.
