Macbook won't add a Brother HL 2140 printer using a USB connection even after reinstalling the drivers.

I had been using my Brother 2140 printer just fine until one day it stopped working. I followed the directions and reset the printing system, but the printer does not show up when I go to re-add it after deleting and then reinstalling the printer drivers. Talked to Brother support, and it doesn't seem to be a problem on the printer end (even bought a new USB). Can't get the computer to recognize the printer at all.

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Might be corrupted printer preferences ..

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following;

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.add.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.print.add.plist file to the Trash.

Then restart your Mac and your printer. On your Mac open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print

Click + to add the printer.
