Why won't my iPad recognize my Hotmail password?

My iPad2 suddenly won't recognize my password. I've changed the PW and am certain it's correct, but every time I try to access my hotmail from my iPad, it said the PW is incorrect. All answers in layman's terms please. I have minimal computer knowledge. I'm not totally hopeless, but have no clue what "IMAP" etc means. I need step by step instructions for the most part.Thanks

I've been battling with same problem, it was driving me crazy. I finally found an answer in the forums that helped me: I signed into my hotmail account on my PC, went into account settings, then security settings, and turned off two-step verification. Apparently iPads can't request the second step of verification, so they get stuck.

There is another way, if you still want to use two-step verification. In Account Settings (Security & Passwords), just below where you turn on/off two-step verification, there is an option called App Passwords. Click on Create a New App Password and it will generate a series of letters that is your new password for apps that can't verify the 2-step process. When you get the box asking for your password on your iPad, put this new password in there instead. Make sure that the password you created for your hotmail account is in the Outlook Account Password in your iPad Settings, but then use this new App Password when the sign-in box pops up afterward. Hope this makes sense.
