Mirrored Displays
How do I get different pictures on mirrored displays ?
you can't, mirror mean mirror as in display a 100% same image on more then 1 screen

Thanks Rudegar,
I was hoping to be able to use my old Cinema Display with my iMac so that I could read text on one screen and note/type on the other - it would really save splitting the screen - any ideas ?

what you want is not mirror then it's extend
in system preferences->display you go to Arrangement and uncheck mirror display that give you 2 seperate desktops when your mouse move out of 1 display it show up on the other you can se different backgrounds on them and keep different programs on them read more here
