Music not syncing correctly to iPhone

Even though my iPhone is syncing with my computer when I plug it in--and I have the music I want to sync to the phone checked in my iTunes library--my phone is not displaying all of the checked music. In addition, music that I've completely deleted from my library is still showing up on my phone. Any suggestions for what the problem might be? Thanks!
