Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Same problem here, 13" MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013. I've had the computer for a year and some months. Sigh.

Same issue here unfortunately, I really hope Apple will start a repair program ASAP.

    It's a really bad experience for a high-end laptop.

So, currently 69 pages in this discussion of people cleaning their screens in the recommended fashion and having the anti-glare come off.

Any official response from Apple? What's the answer? Don't clean your screen, just let the oil and dust build up until you can't see what you're doing?

All this from a $2000 laptop?

Weak doesn't being to describe it.

This is why I no longer buy Apple products.  Until I see that they no longer hide behind the cosmetic excuse, I won't go back.  We all pay good money for products.  When we pay a premium like we did with the MacBook Pro, we should all get outstanding support and proper warranty support......  I think we can all agree to this.......

If so, it will not be on these user to user forums. Try the 'official' Apple websites.

    Cheers

For the record, I took my MacBook Pro to an Apple store about six months ago, shortly before the regular warranty expired. The Genius who looked at my screen readily admitted the screen was defective and I had it replaced, free of charge.

I figured it was in fact a defect and thought that would be the end of it. Alas, the exact same thing has happened to the new one. Apparently it's a feature, not a defect.

It may be "cosmetic" if you want to twist the meaning of that word up into a pretzel. In my opinion, it's distracting and annoying as ****. It's also totally ridiculous to expect people to accept this from a premium piece of hardware.

As far as Apple not responding, if they do in fact not monitor their own support forums at all, I guess that tells us a little bit more about how much they care about their customers.

Maybe their response is "what are you gonna do, buy a PC?" To that, I would point to the Democratic part, and ask how well that attitude has worked out for them.

Cosmetic is the term some of the Apple Genius people use sometimes.  Usually they give this reason as to why it's not covered under AppleCare.  One of the terms in this AppleCare warranty is that they don't cover cosmetic damage.  So, yes, I agree it's a big stretch to say it's a cosmetic issue.  But this is Apple's term, not anyone else.

Any way, I have purchased three other Windows computers since this unfortunate experience with the screen coating.  Overall, I don't think there is all that much of a difference if you buy equivalent hardware.  They're other good companies out there who are willing to service you well.  This is one of the benefits of a free market we get to enjoy.......

I agree there's not much of a difference between a Mac and a PC if you buy good hardware. I just prefer the Mac OS, and I've used Apple gear for 30 years. I hate to see them pull this cheesy move.

Hey guys, if you're going to put an anti-glare coating on an LCD, make sure it doesn't rub off when you try to clean it. Jeez.
