Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Have the same problem and its getting worse. First it started with a little point above the space bar and now its getting bigger around the screen (black surface).... Apple refused to do anything since warranty is expired. Im a student and paid tons of money for a macbook because i thought it would be my reward for the bachelors degree and now i just have a ****** screen..... thank you apple....

I have the same problem. I got MacBook Pro 13-inch Late 2013.

    Bought beginning of 2014.

Used cloth of Apple and stopped cleaning after damage firstly occurred, however couldn't stop it.

I hope Apple does something for this problem.

In my case the damages occurred in places where keys contact with display when laptop is closed. The laptop is still new, but the display makes all working experience                 uncomfortable.

I was always wondering how comes they allow the keys to touch the screen, it cannot be safety for display. But all macbooks models from the beginning have this issue. I take it it's only the matter of time ( 'cause MB Retina is not that long in production yet) when this discussion branch became giant and finally hit the Apple. But now Apple doesn't care.

I think the problem was Apple designers didn't take into account small (minute) tolerances/variations in manufacturing which has ultimately lead to the problem of the keyboard of some units to touch the screen when the lid is closed.

They designed the keyboard to not touch the screen when the lid is closed but the tolerance is so little that if say a slight variance in manufacturing occurs, then it touches.  By slight, I mean (for example) a slight variance in manufacture or assembly of the keyboard winds up with the keys resting .1mm higher than originally designed, or a slight variance in assembly of the screen hinge winds up with the lid closing .1mm lower than it should, then you have contact with the keyboard.

I Started having this problem a while ago. At first I assumed there was something on my screen, then after a couple weeks it was clear that something was coming OFF the screen. It was in a couple isolated areas, now its everywhere!  There are different patches all over my screen, making things look kind of cloudy.  It effectively ruins the computer. It doesn't matter what great hardware you have inside or how well everything "works" if you can't see the screen ... And I bought this 1st-gen "retina" MBP specifically for the screen!

Same stain problem with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013). I am always _very_ careful with my Apple notebooks, so this is definitely not a handling problem, but a manufacturing problem.

Out of guarantee, so for me no hope for help from Apple. This is a very unprofessional attitude und very frustrating for your valued customers, Mr. Cook!

I sent a friendly mail to Elaine E., Relations Executive EMEIA w/cc Tim Cook with my complaints.

Both Apple stores in my area do not offer currently time slots at the genius bar, keep trying to get one. But I guess they will not be helpful.
