Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Because everyone on the Internet is a big shot, especially if they can't craft a coherent sentence.

Thanks to everyone who is providing resources with evidence. They should come in handy for people bringing in their laptops to get fixed. I would definitely show them the Staingate site and that video if they tried to say it was because of improper cleaning.

Pete, do not do more that question, all we write in this forum have gone to the store and the answer is no apple takes over.

In my case I am president of a software company, I maintain contact with senior executives of multinational companies, I can assure you that is not good advertising that is gaining apple. Thanks for understanding, I hope

Why are you answering me when I was answering to someone else's post? As for your claims, you could also be the cleaner at a small, unsuccessful software company. That is the internet. You can make all the claims you wish with no evidence, and we are not to know. Just send you up three cheers.

How do you know that everyone here has sent everything to every Apple Store? As you claim.

    Signed

I have a new Macbook Pro w/Retina 2015 13". I just bought this laptop a little over a month ago and am already seeing signs of this issue. The lower right corner and top center of the screen looks to have a permanent smudge that won't rub off with a microfiber cloth. I also have small bubbles throughout the screen.  I haven't seen this mentioned much in this thread... has anybody else had these bubbles before the staining occurred?? Just to note, I've never used any liquid or spray to clean the screen. I've only used a soft microfiber cloth.

So how many 2015's have been reported as affected by this?

I had 1 "bubble" that looked like a dried liquid spot (sneeze, splash...) but it felt hard and could definitely feel it under the cloth. Applying a bit more pressure or strength in my cleaning started the marks described in this thread.

2015 macbook pro here as I stated earlier. Here's a couple pictures I took.. the most noticeable bumps are the bubbles. But what I didn't see until I actually take a picture with flash on it, is an outline of the row of keys developing on the screen! This is not visible without the camera! This is upsetting!  I set up a meeting at the local Apple store for Friday... we'll see how that goes...

Thanks for that. Just joined the group. Looks like people are having luck by emailing directly to Tim Cooks email address. I'm going to try that route if my visit to Apple is unsuccessful

Brought my mid-2014 rMBP to the Apple Store last Tuesday, my stain started on the left edge and soon after they appeared all around the edge. They would examine it and let me know if it's a free repair (it was just within the 1-year warranty period, so I would expect it to, I was already aware that the screen is quite fragile so I only used the provided cloth so clean the screen as few times as possible to prevent wear).

I've had about five Apple notebooks so far, this is my most expensive one so far and never got any problem like this. Sure, I had some defects right out of the box like bad screen connections or dead pixels, thanks to the 14-day cool down return period for online purchases in the Netherlands those were trivial to get replaced/refunded.. but never anything that developed more than a week after initial purchase.

I just hope it gets sorted quickly by local Apple support, I don't want to jump through many hoops to get the thing repaired

Hi, bought my MacBook pro retina 13'' model 11.1, 8 months ago and have the same problem. It looks terrible

in the beginning I used cleaning wipes, but now i'm cleaning display only with cotton cloth...but it's too late.

I asked in the service (here in Europe) and they told me to clean the display with a damp cotton cloth, but without any pressure, because the pressure crystal display smash ...I had to ask before first cleaning may be...

The good news is the scratches are only on the black framework not on usable display...

    Very bad work Apple

Of course I love my MBP and Apple's items, but ....

    SOLVED

I did have this things lightly on sides of the screen, 3 days of 1 year warranty left. Went to the service yesterday, today I've got all-new screen for free. So IT IS COVERED! I have proof papers. Moscow, Russian Federation, MT Serivice.

It is not solved for many without warranty.
