Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

I have the same issue too, but since it began it has only gotten worse, and worse over time.

I own a 15 inch MBP Retina (Mid 2012) and I bought it around Christmas 2012. I was really happy with it until two months later the rubber feet on the bottom of the computer melted off. I contacted Apple right away, but they said those rubber feet were not covered under warranty.. Then a month after that I noticed the 'stain damage' starting to appear on the top left corner of my screen, along with some dead pixels in the middle. I contacted Apple again, with three issues, but they still said it wasn't covered under warranty. Now my Mac is way out of warranty and the issues are so annoying.

I paid $2000+ for a premium device, only to get screwed over when there were issues with it.

Keep cleaner hands when using your Mac

Anyway, I made a petition.. Just to make myself feel a little better. It might not work, but hey, at least we tried every method.

To add one more to the list: Macbook Pro Retine 15-inch Late 2013 with maximum specifications, received in December 2013.

Keeping/handling: From it's first day, the notebook was protected with a sleeve by Decoded (recommendation leather sleeve in the online apple store, has micro-fiber lining and protected zipper) and always with the provided micro-fiber cloth between keys and screen. Being lifetime wearer of glasses, i'm used to clean anti-glare coated glass/plastic and well aware of how-to handle those, resulting in: i only used the Apple provided micro-fiber cloth and at the utmost some drips of water - or in other words: i handle my expensive glasses as well as this even more expensive Macbook with kid gloves.

Having been product manager (for highend mastering turnkey systems) before i started university grade teaching, i'm wondering when there will be a reaction and solution for my case - and the other cases listed here. The fact that the anti-glare coating's fixation/bond to the glass is obviously too weak can't be negated - even if (in my case), the Genius Bar person told me, that this is "normal wear" of the laptop being used.

The noted product manager, being a part of my life, would say: "We made a production fault, please do a callback and fix those issues to prevent customer dissatisfaction." I would agree with other behaviour, if we would be talking about a price level of a few hundert dollars, but we are talking about a luxury level design laptop where the exterior design is as important as it's inner high-fidelity.

Dear Apple Service - change your mind and give us an acceptable service-path. Don't damage your reputation by not listening.

    Kind regards

    Stefan

I have the exact same problem.  My mac book pro is from January 2,013, but it had some pixel damage, and was substituted within guaranty if August 2,013.  The stain damage started in November 2014.  So far is only around the camera, but after reading this post, I know is bound to get worst.  My strategy right now is to reduce cleaning of the screen to the minimum necessary.  It doesn't seem to be caused by pressure on the aluminum parts, but perhaps due to greasy fingers.

    Hi Joakim

I do yet not have the problem myself, but you can use my statement I made in this thread, that as former engineer at OC Oerlikon (this is one of the companies producing plants for thin film coatings like AR coating is also one) I can testify, that this is clearly a production problem caused by ignoring application instructions of the plants applying the AR coating. As soon the application engineer - after teaching the staff there how to run the thin film coating application and maintain the plant - leaves the company, most often cleaning instructions of the thin film coating plants are ignored due to cost efficiency (just imagine: a plant being offline due to cleaning process can not run another charge and during offline time you do not make money), dictated usually by the management of the companies doing the coating. Unfortunately this dramatically affects the coating quality. The problem of the world today: Managers with an MBA having absolutely no sense for technical needs and so, the problem finally is passed over to the customer. This thread here is archaic for this.

    Greetings,

    Roland

It was supposed to be Jobs face, how come it become bitten apple. Definitely a production bug.

Yep, same here... Mid 2012 15". Got 16GB Ram and 512GB hardrive and the i7 processor so it wasn't a cheap machine. Out of warranty now... And the problem seems to get worse by the day.

Apple, could we at least get a comment from you on the problem?
