Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Seems I suffered a brain haemorrhage too, so please enlighten me, in which way would your suggestion help to solve the problem as opposed to the solution I suggested (provided such feature is provided by the Host of this Forum)

Contact the Hosts. Good luck with that. The issue of screen replacement has been addressed by Apple.

Pete, I give up. Your mind is too twisted to even comprehend the simplest of English.

You are the one trying to tell the story. Not me. Contact the hosts as you suggested yourself. No one here is going to hold your hand through it.

You are seriously confused, my dear man/woman.

Issue addressed by Apple BUT ONLY AS UNOFFICIAL QUALITY PROGRAM . So far very very few Apple Care/Store do know about this. So your comment not proper.

Please provide a link when making such a claim.

Look forward to it, as do others.

    Greetings,

OK so Apple has addressed our screen issues. Finally. After years of scoffing at users. They're not doing it to be nice. They're being as secretive as they can about it.

I live a two hour drive from an Apple store so it may be a while before I can get my screen replaced.  So I would like to hear about peoples experiences at the Apple store. Did Apple willingly and cheerfully replace your screen or did they give you problems? Do we need to bring a screen shot of that Apple notice?

I too would be interested to know from sufferers of this problem if there is any correlation between the manufacturer of the screen and its propensity to have the AR coating wear off. One would hope that the issue is resolved in the new screens but there's no guarantee of that and Apple isn't going to tell us. Knowing whether one or both manufacturers have this problem would be useful information.

I see nothing wrong with asking these questions and sharing experiences on this discussion board.

According to the two Apple Techs I spoke to yesterday, both were well-aware of the issue and the program, as an internal memo had been sent out.  "Willingly and cheerfully" an appointment was scheduled for 6:45 PM yesterday at The Grove.  Upon speaking to the Apple Genius, he too was also aware of the program, immediately wrote up a work order and informed me that they had the part in stock, and would be doing the repair at the store rather than shipping it out.  As I need my computer this week, I decided to drop it off on Sunday, which they had no problem with.  Within 10 minutes of leaving, I received an email with a copy of the work order.  I have the 13" MacBook Pro with Apple Care, so no out of pocket expense, which according to the work order would have been $396.59 for parts plus $39.00 for labor. ($435.59)

This morning I received the following email:

Thanks for visiting the Genius Bar at the Apple Store, The Grove. Your service part is here, and we’re ready to begin your repair.

Please bring your product to the Apple Store, The Grove anytime before Tuesday, October 27, 2015. After Tuesday, October 27, 2015, we might have to release the part for use in other repairs. If you can’t make it in by then, please contact us so we can hold the part for you.

We look forward to seeing you.

Great. What else could we ask for? Hope to hear more stories like that.

Awesome! I had called Apple Support and they were well aware of the issue even though its been a low-key announcement. I have my Genius Bar appointment this Saturday so I'll be sure to provide an update here with my experience.

To all those still chiming in that they feel cheated or Apple isn't fixing this, PLEASE CALL APPLE NOW. A lot has changed in the past 2 weeks, Apple is well aware of the issue, and will fix it. So if you called before and have gotten no where, PLEASE CALL APPLE NOW.

If you have paid out of pocket to Apple previously to get this issue repaired, PLEASE CALL APPLE NOW. They WILL issue a refund for any documented out of pocket expenses paid to APPLE and APPLE ONLY. So if you tried your own homegrown fixes or brought it to a third party, you're out of luck with reimbursements.

And finally to Peter. You have to be one of the rudest experts I have ever encountered on these forums. I can't tell if you're trolling or not, but since you've gathered enough users points to be a 5 star, I'm lead to believe you think you're an elitist. But dude, CHILL OUT. You're literally picking on people for their English when clearly they're coming here looking for a life line because the support in their native country is lack luster. If anyone should report anything to the hosts, it should be a report on your behavior throughout this discussion. Regardless if people are poking you now for your original statements then, it's in the past! So be the bigger man and WALK AWAY. We now have a fix and we'll continue to help each other. If you keep coming back here because you're getting e-mail alerts because someone is replying to this very old discussion -- PLEASE ignore it, unsubscribe from it, or send it to spam. Just stay away man! You and your incendiary comments are no longer needed here.

And if a HOST happens to stumble upon this. Please for the love of God either lock this discussion and redirect it to a new one with a proper answer pointing out the procedure to get this fixed OR change the accepted answer on this existing discussion.

Now that this can be legitimately fixed by Apple, lets get back to HELPING PEOPLE. You know, the reason why this place exists in the first place.

Now is Apple acting proper,  documented issue will be forwarded to higher lever to get refund (maybe, it does take 4 weeks) for out of own pocket repair. Hopefully it works for all with the same issue.
