Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Mariposy: Since Apple has a screen replacement for customers effected by this issue and they are repairing them for free chances are the replacement will not exhibit the same issue.

However your concern is legitimate. Have you spoken to an Apple representative reccently to inquire if the screen on their new laptops is

the same or different than the ones with the flaw? They should be able to address your concern.

The genius didn't say he knew for sure it was a permanent fix. But he did also say they never do this unless it is a permanent fix. The last thing they want to be is liable for an admitted fault especially if it's reoccurring after the repair.

get on chat.  have a reference to the recall.  tell them specifically what you are requesting.  They will tell you they are going to transfer you to an Admin.  They will review and give the ok for the repair. ask for Mail In repair when they ask you when you want to make an appointment. Two days later a box  arrives via FedEx 1 day Air. you follow instructions for packing.  Two days later they will send it back to you Fedex 1 day air.    In less time than you would normally wait to even get into the store its done.  not to mention waiting at the store. mine is on its way back right now.  This is how i got it done.

Nice! I figured you could probably do that too but since this was a recently announced repair action, I figured to go through the store to ensure it wasn't going to be turned away. But definitely a good tip for others who come across this.

I have a very similar & quite a worse one ,i bought Macbook Pro 13inch in early 2015 . Starting from 2 months ago  i notice my screen have lots of unknow scar and i though just a normal scratch . Until early of this month , my friend macbook pro 13 inch had the same problem as mine . they told me it were the coating of ant glare came off . After i did afew research on web ,i notice we are not the only 1 who got this case . Dear apple , should this be manufacture problem ?

I feel very disappointed to apple's quality . This kind of issue should'nt happen on Apple Product . This is not a expectation from a

    qualityed expensive product .

Call Apple. Let them know of your experience. They should create an incident number then reference the internal document to this incident number

so who ever you are speaking with at the store can pull it up and authorize the repair. (hopefully)

They may even contact the store manager for you and provide you with their name so you are able to get this done and not turned away.

I Did exactly what Capitalkid  said. I opted for the mail-in option. Turnaround time was 3 days. MBP late 2013 retina. Here's proof from Apple that there is a problem- image.jpeg

    Hi everyone.

My macbook pro 15 mid 2014 has very little dots on the screen that matches with the edge of some central keys of the keyboard and a stain on the basel top left corner. They are very little and not bothering me now, but They eventually are going to get bigger. Does anyone know if the screen They are using to replace can suffer from the same issue? If yes, I think I will wait until the my screen gets worse to ask for replacement.

    Hi there,

Thought I'd throw my experience in the mix. I have a Late-2013 MBPRetina (bought Feb 2014).

I had the same peeling that everyone is experiencing about 8 months into owning the MBP. I took my MBP into a store Feb 2015 (JUST in warranty) and after inspection they said they'll replace it. I believe this was before it became a well known issue with Apple however the guy agreed to replace the screen as something clearly wasn't right.

I'm now 9 months into the future with the new screen and the same peeling is occuring on the replaced screen. I guess I'll have to get it replaced. Whether they have now changed the coating on the screen I'm not sure but as of 8 months ago my screen was replaced with a screen that still peeled. So basically I'm 2 screens deep with the same issue. 3rd time a charm?

FYI: never used any product except the apple supplied microfibre cloth on the screens. the peeling I've had has occured round the edges.

    OMG the 2015 too?

I ordered a new MBP Retina, but after reading this, i will let it go back and order a macbook air.

When Apple will fix the retina Issue i will buy one but at this point the air will do it for me.

Hurray, I got me screen replaced.

When I visited the iCentre Malta to request my screen to be replaced I first got told that their might be a problem because I removed all evidence of the faulty coating (those of you who followed the thread from the beginning might recall that I managed to get rid of ALL the faulty coating using a substance I can't name here). But a very friendly Apple technician asked me to send him all evidence and explain why I removed the coating. I did so and he opened a case with Apple and last Friday I got a call from him that a screen has arrived in Malta and I could come Monday for the replacement. Today is Monday and within 3 hours I got a brand new screen.

I must say that about 8/9 month ago (when this thread started) I wasn't even dreaming that this will happen. But now I'm once again a happy Apple customer, my trust is fully restored.

Hi everyone, I'm joining in as I discovered this same AR "peeling" issue in the shape of the trackpad on my mid-2012 15" MBP. I have an LG screen. What do you think the chances are of this getting fixed easily by Apple? I've also been photographing my screen for the past 6 months as it began ghosting images (which has never been reported for my model). Thanks for any input on how to save my screen
