Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

The problem was solved for the OP. If you cannot use the solution that they marked as solving the problem then start your own thread and stopp piggybacking off others. Even if Apple were here they would ignore a post marked as solved, as most of the community ignore it.

There's a button that says 'I have this question too'.  This is to lessen repetition of the same problem.  If the OP believes it is solved for them, it may not be for others who have the same question, and so the discussion continues.

It's not lazy to continue a discussion as it requires the same amount of typing as starting a new one

I don't like people who don't have anything useful to say and spend their time making hard for others to find a solution.  Everything you have said is incorrect

Don't cry about it. Just try starting a new thread.

@ AlexMFF - I cannot find your post regarding a lawsuit against Apple. Was it deleted?

    David's fight against Goliath....

Apple ditches our requests with this very argument: cosmetic issues are not covered by warranty. So I have two simple questions that puzzles me:

What is Apple's definition of cosmetic?

And how does Apple argue, that the AR coating is cosmetic?

Probably any one of us will agree that this coating is more than cosmetic. It serves a specific purpose, it has a function: to diminish the glare from back light. This makes the nature of problem non-cosmetic.

Any non-Apple lawyer will probably agree with this - just as they will probably agree, that a Retina screen coated only partly with the anti-glare coating is everything but cosmetic.

Invitation to help search around and see what is written about this coating - by Apple and others.

    Please share your thoughts.

    With kind regards

Interesting article (in German), dated January 20, 2015: http://www.golem.de/news/macbook-pro-retina-displays-mit-irreparabler-fleckenbil dung-1501-111807.html

HURRY!!! to click the link before it is removed by the helpful support team.

Intro (loose translation):  "Macbook Pro. Irreparable Spots on Retina Displays. The glittering display of the Macbook Pro has for some users developed spots, that cannot be polished away. Maybe the top layer is too delicate. Affected users are rejected by Apple, but it is not that simple."

Hey acki00 - I am in Belgium too. And concerning the 2 year EU - warranty - I went last year to the Swich shop in Antwerp (Official Apple Reseller) were I bought my mac almost 2 years before that.

    They said

    1) They never saw something like this.

    2) My 2 year EU warranty is not valid because I bought the MBP with a VAT number as a freelancer, and in this case the warranty drops to 1 year.

The only thing I could do is pay 60 euro so that they can send my MAC to the repair center so that they establish how much it will cost me to replace the screen.

I didn't do it because I will not pay for the replacement.

What I didn't check last year was if it was true that my warranty is 1 year only. The stain was much much smaller back than. But today it turned to this and it will go down.

I just saw this very thing also on my own 7 month old macbook pro. Any recommendations? Can I take it to warranty?  I just joined Facebook group.IMG_20150313_165240.jpg

Same problem here Retina Mid 2012.

I didn't expect to pay thousands of dollars for a top of the line computer to have this happen.

    Apple you must act.

I'm having the same issue, keyboard area and on the upper glass near the camera looks like the coating is coming off.
