Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

    Pete,

as you are suggesting repeatedly to contact Apple, could you kindly suggest a solution for me. Bare in mind that I bought my Macbook in July 2012 and there is NO warranty and NO European 2 year guarantee on it any longer. Still the Macbook is looking otherwise brand new and functions brand new (as I covered it both sides with a plastic shield and handled it with extreme care.

What do you expect Apple Malta to tell me? You think they will close an eye and ignore the fact that they have no legal obligation to help me and still replace my screen free of charge?

And before you tell me to give feedback to Apple, that I did!

I really don't want to start another discussion with you, I would like to invite you to go beyond your constructive advise and provide an even more detailed advise what consumer in the different situations laid out in this forum should do to get help. Just contacting Apple is apparently not doing the trick as most postings indicate.

Maybe you have some more insights we don't have. If you do, please share it with us. If can't do it here, you know where you can.

    Thanks

    Matthias

What do you want me to tell yu?

Same problem here...  It started to develop about a year ago and is spreading more and more from the edges of the screen towards the center, seriously messing up any attempt to carefully work on artwork, photoshop or anything...   this is just unaccaptable..

So I was hunting around and found this (apologies if linked before)

    http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/shopping/shopping-abroad/guarantees/index_e n.htm

"If an item you bought anywhere in the EU turns out to be faulty or does not look or work as advertised, the seller must repair or replace it free of charge or give you a full refund or reduction in price"

    Also

"In some EU countries you must inform the seller of the fault within two months of discovering it otherwise you may lose your right to the guarantee."

For those of us in the EU, make sure you've informed Apple of the problem within that time span. If this whole thing ends up in court it'll be detail like that which matters.

I am in the tropics. And it was hot and dry season when it happened to my laptop.

    With kind regards

How so? By giving them the 'proper links' to contact Apple by? To help them realise that their posts here are only being read by other users? To help them understand the process of how these Forums work?

I don't see you point. You simply have a grievance with me that is adding nothing to this thread. In fact most of your posts are continually being removed. You will be in receipt of many emails as to why.

If you do not agree then Contact Apple

    Have a nice day Jakaya

Joining the club, My Macbook pro 15inch purchased December 2014 Just started showing signs of this on the bottom right hand corner, thought it was a smudge and cleaned it with a screen cloth and it expanded from touching it...

Read through most of this thread, has there been any good responses in regards to people just out of the default warranty ?

I'm worried this is just gonna spread and get worse like other stories, *****

This is happening to me also. I have never used liquids or any third party cloth.

I have a genius booking next week, we'll see if I can get a replacement on the spot (which i'm entitled to https://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/)

    How embarrassing, Apple

This is my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, mid 2012). At Apple Support they ask me to send them a legal claim as this issue is not covered under warranty.

It may not be perceived well in the picture but the display is intact on the outside, the stains are inside.

My 13" late 2012 rMBP has a rather mild case, though it still annoys me quite a lot. It started at the bottom left pretty early and now I have two larger stains near the center and some small ones sprinkled all over. I paid around $2200. The guys at the Apple store said it will not be repaired under warranty.

Does anybody know is there the same problem on iMac 27" 5K? I wanted to buy iMac but now I have decided not to buy this computer. Judging by the reviews this defect is not limited to MacBookPro.
