Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

    If this happens to me and the people at the store refuse to fix it, I'll ask them to demo to me how it should be cleaned.

    If they do, and it makes it worse, then that'll surely prove that it's a defect.  I imagine though that they'd refuse point blank.

    I've the same problem with my MacBook Pro 13-inch retina Display, bought 17/02/2014. Under warranty, but Apple Support replays that it is a "Cosmetic Problem". No Words.

    This isn't close to being a cosmetic issue.

    Their anti-reflective coating isn't working, therefore it's not fit for purpose. This is a defect with the device. The hard point is proving to Apple that it's not your fault.

    It may not be perceived well in the picture but the display is intact on the outside, the stains are inside.

    No, it is outside. It may looks like you described, but it is outside for sure.

    Use water as I did in this recording and you will be sure.

    My mac has signs of buttons on screen and even a few lines: is easily scratched, extremely delicate screen .. just dust ... (I always clean with water and apple cloth);

    Poor wifi signal reception;

    I never had such problems with my acer 5920G (seven years old).

    I am extremely disappointed and frustrated, not worth the money I spent.

    Hi,

    Really sorry for all of you having these problems. I have seen the problem at re-union recently and gave my friend some advice based on the responses many of you posters have received from Apple which has been that it's either due to body fluids (finger oil/sweat/grease, tears, spit, snot etc) or that the lid has been pressed to hard to the keyboard when closed, e.g. when put in a bag or sleeve. Personally I also believe it might have something to do with heat or at least be a contibuting factor. Anyhow, there is clearly an issue when can't clean or carry your laptop without damaging the screen to a degree redering it almost useless. There basically is only one way to avoid this problem, again based on the explanations from Apple: wear gloves and a face mask when using the computer, put something between the screen and keyboard when closing it and never put it into any kind of bag.

    I must admit I am very surprised to see this issue and more so with an Apple products - we're talking about a cheap knock-off from China - I have never had this issue with a dozen laptops, a handful of smartphones, computer screens or televisions even though I always use windex kind of products and a cloth to clean my screens. I was going to buy a Macbook pro for my daughter, but this issue has changed my intentions. I'll look elsewhere.

    same issue here with a MacBook Pro 15' bought in August 12; I tried to exchange the display for which Apple charged me the equivalent of USD 730.-; however, the replacement produced awful greenish displays so I changed it back to the damaged one; help urgently required

    Apple this problem is shocking. I bought my Mac Book Pro in early 2014 (produced in october 2013) in Poland. It cost more than 2300 $. I demand notebook with proficient display. Before, I have few notbookes made by Asus, Siemens and last Sony. They cost a part of price of your product in spite of all all of them still working. Retina display after 13 months of using have drawbackw. Contact me immediately. Not only I have problem but you too. Contact with immediately.

    Hi I have the same problem in a macbook pro retina late 2012.

    I've always used the utmost care in cleaning.

    I use the macbook pro for 70% of the time closed with the external monitor!IMG_1894.JPG
