Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

    Mike,

this is how my screen looks like after I removed the coating completely. No more coating at all, but therefore the screen is of course more reflective. I personally refer the reflection over the stained coating. If you look at this discussion at page 8 (+-) you will find my posting showing how much coating I got down with water and a mild window cleaner. The rest was not so easy. Unfortunately I cannot mention it here as my posting will be removed.

    Hi from Italy same here.

Bought  macbook pro retina early 2014 (February 2014) in Italy and my screen had same result.

I never used chemial agent to clean my screen but only a cloth (85% poliestere 20% polyamide).

I think something is gone wrong.

I'm very disappointed because I paid 2200€ to buy the top in fact of reliability and this is the service that Apple deserved me.

Really hope we can solve kindly this problem

Hi Kamaboko I do not see any difference in the color or quality, on the contrary it's more bright and looks like new. But before you may try out this, be sure you have the same kind of strains as the one I posted, because if you got the other kind that are like white peeling off on the borders of the screen, this could get worst, it's on your own risk. bye!

    Hi there,

    Same here,

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, eind 2013) , shows up marking some dirt from the keyboard. Tried to remove it with the micro-cloth as advised. The dirt on the retina stayed on the screen and is visible als grey marks. Anyone with same problems? Advise? foto-2.JPG

I see this has been getting a lot of traction lately.  Glad to hear!  Here's my experiences:

Retina #1 - Display issues (ghosting).  Replaced screen.

Retina #2 (screen #2) - Coating fading from the center.  Took it in and they said that it happens and its caused by storing it in a backpack.  For it not to happen, you have to store it in a separate sleeve so no pressure is on the top.

--- Retina screen completely died on a location, so I had to buy a new laptop.  They replaced screen (it was an issue with wiring), but now I had a new computer as of 7/2014.

Computer #2 - Stored separately as recommended.  After about 5 months, the same issues returned.  Did not bother replacing or mentioning, since this seems like a design flaw.  There are a lot of "design flaws" with this computer (like the most frustrating Magsafe connector), so I'm just living with it.  Frustrating for a $3,000+ computer.

Same problem! I just found this problem now! This is ridiculous! I cannot believe a computer this expensive will have such a problem so soon. Mine is a little over a year, and i no longer have warranty. It's clearly a manufacturer's problem, because I really take care of my computer, and i cannot see how these many people have the same problem and be "user's fault." I cannot believe that Apple would tell some of you that you had to pay for it. That is ridiculous! Mine is only on the left hand corner on the black edge, and I am hoping that it's not going to grow!!!

I'm on chat with Apple at this very moment, and they're telling me to do a mail in order, since the closest Apple store is about 2.5 hours away. I'm just very frustrated with this situation, because I take so much care of this computer, and I see people whose problem isn't getting better but worse and Apple refuses to do anything about it.

I sure hope they see this thread and decide that it is in fact their fault, and they do call backs to get this repaired ASAP.

(first sorry for my bad english!)

I have a Mac book pro retina, (the more performant and expensive version), since 2 years. I am very careful because it is my working tool (i am graphic designer and illustrator). The problem came few months ago. The Apple store confirmed to me that defect which may appear after contact buttons on the screen when the computer is closed. Today, the marks are becoming increasingly important ... now i am afraid when i am cleaning my screen!

They don't take in charge the problem  (confirmed at the moment , for technical assistance)...I am really disappointed by the "not assistance".... because it is clearly a construction defect !!!

What do you mean "Apple are not here"? Nobody at Apple reads our posts?  I don't think so.
