Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

I have seen this exact issue before but not on a mac.   The SatNav/Audio/Phone system in my Mercedes Benz is built in to the dash and after having it cleaned by a company once I noticed it when it was turned off at home.  Returning to the company we discovered they had used "ArmorAll" on the screen which had "eaten" into the coating on the screen.    As the replacement system was over $5000 that was not really an option.  So instead we finished the job using ArmorAll to completely remove the coating.   Now three years on you would never know,  the screen look absolutely fine.  so I recommend anyone who has this problem to finish the job.    For my macbook pro I have made a micro fibre cloth that I always use on between the keyboard and screen when I close it and so far so good

    cheers

Now that's a work of art.  Apple does design some artistic patterns in that screen coating, ha?

Looks like I'm joining the club too.

Late 2013 model... out of warranty... spots all over the centre of the screen.

Don't think I'm going to even bother contacting apple to see if they will fix it.

All I know is I won't be recommending Apple anymore, or using any of their products.

It's a shame as well as we were looking at kitting our office out with 15 of these devices.

I've purchased another computer from a small vendor who makes custom PCs.   So far I've had it for six months.  It's been working really well. They give you free tech support for the life of the computer.  It's been a very good solid performer, not to mention the few times I've called them, they helped me solve problems with other connected hardware.  If you need to repair it down the road, the unit is completely self-serviceable too.

    Hello All!

Even my MBP, 15 Inch Late 2014, has the same issues.

Left bottom corner is affected by the "staingate"

I did not clean up this screen, with nothing else but Apple cloth, and water.

On my previous MBP, non retina, I did not have same issues.

    Shame on Apple.

    2500 Euro for what?

To avoid future instances of staining consider reducing the exuberance of your wanking.

have just been to genius bar with small smudges on my daughters macbook pro, purchased in Sept. 2014.  She was basically accused of using corrosive cleaners on the screen causing damage and told this wasn't covered under her apple care warranty.  This is her 2nd Mac and she knows how to look after it.  She has never used cleaners.  When i came home and searched the web for others with similar problem, i was shocked by what is going on here, and the fact that Apple is ignoring the problem and blaming their customers.  Well Apple this may be the end of your dominance in the business if this is your new attitude, to disrespect the loyal customers you have.

I have the same problem. Applecare refused to replace screen even with Apple Care. I'm really disappointed. I didn't use any detergent to clean screen or water.

Taking all the damage reports into account, this is can happen to any Macbook Pro retina, either 13" or 15" manufactured from 2012 through 2014.

It would not surprise me, if the new Macbook 12" is also affected.

Such a shame!  Too bad this product has such a major flaw with the coating......  It goes to show us that we all should wait a couple of years prior to buying any new technology.  Let it play out and see how the company responds to manufacturing defects and or problems......  We all have something to learn from this.

Same problem here.. macbook retina 15" late 2013, it's starting around the webcam and on the edges.

Talking about this issue here is totally useless, because the mods deleted my past 3 posts, i can't write why because they will delete it again.

My last post was absolutely safe with the Apple Support Communities Use Agreements, but it was deleted.
