Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

My last post was absolutely safe with the Apple Support Communities Use Agreements, but it was deleted.

Then apparently not. Read those terms again.

Yup, this is a bigger issue than the problem itself.

Well, they may be able to delete a post, but it will be very difficult to delete a group of angry customers approaching a retail store.

Anger seldom encourages one to follow a movement.  A compelling argument delivered in a sound, rational way though can make a difference.  Proof in point, I recently bought a MBP, not a rMBP based on this thread.  There were other considerations, too.  For instance, I can (and have) updated my MBP, whereas I couldn't with a rMBP. Be calm and stay the course.  The writing is already on the wall for Apple, and changes will have to be made.

    Folks,

Calm,   flaming will get you no-where guaranteed.   I am not yet convinced that Apple is wrong.  As I stated earlier my built in Mercedes Benz AMG COMAND system had the exact same problem,  it looked identical to this issue,  and it definitely was caused by wear on the screen by cleaning, and completely removing the coating made the screen like new again and comparing screens with and without the coating when turned on you cannot pick them apart.  If its reflection you are concerned with then get a Moshi iVisor.

It is better to remain calm.  In my case I had to purchase two additional computers.  I decided to go with two high end PCs largely due to the issue we are all experiencing with our rMBP and having the ability to upgrade it easily.

I just realize i have the same problem in the edges of my computer which is no more than a year old. Do you know is mac is already taking responsibility for this?

I agree that flaming is of no help.

But it's quite clear, that there exists a problem with the display. The rMBP is so far the only device with this issue. There are absolutely no reports about other Apple products with glass screens that show the same behaviour. It can be assumed that the rMBP users do not treat their displays differently.

And still, removing the AR coating yourself an buying an iVisor cannot be the solution to the problem, since it's a problem that was not caused by the users.

Add me to the list of affected owners. Late 2013 rMBP 13". Coating is coming off mostly in the bezel areas. I noticed it after cleaning with water and microfiber. I've always been extremely gentle with the computer, and it's otherwise in great shape. Not happy!

@ChildOfFire: I have indeed subscribed to the discussion and at 269 emails currently in my email box where they're luckily not deleted     I'm by the way considering to take legal steps myself. I have never done that before though but I just feel so frustrated that a company can simply get away with such a design failure. On the other hand I'm also thinking about simply removing all the left over coating to have a (maybe too?) shiny screen again. Such a hassle...
