Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Just posting to say this problem has recently appeared on my 7 month old MacBook Pro Retina 13. I've been cleaning it with a lint free cloth and a tiny bit of water if necessary, yet recently the coating has visibly started to wear away at the top left of the screen, to the point where I'm very wary to clean the screen again. This is understandably annoying because as well the unsightly mark from the coating rubbing off, the screen is also covered in fingerprints and dirt that I'm afraid to wipe clean in case I cause more damage. Hopefully Apple will recognise the number of users affected and start to acknowledge the issue soon!

Sadly, due to posters such as ChildOfFire, amongst others, few are taking this thread seriously, which is a real disservice to those who have an actual issue with their screen. Any response that is connected to the numerous off topic rants and posting of links which are not allowed here, are therefore also deleted. That is the way forums work. I would suggest not replying to threads which are obviously going to be removed for these breaches of the Terms Of Use

I realise that it is not an answer to your issue, but no one here CAN answer this as it a matter that needs to be taken up with Apple either through an Apple Store or Apple Customer Support.

But don't answer someone as immature as ChildOfFire or you will most likely see your post disappear with his nonsense.

    Cheers and good luck

    Pete

Yep,  maturity is a big problem here. And biased or otherwise motivated unequal applied removal terms too.

Funny is that those categorising others as being immature do fall pretty much into the same category.

Reminds me on this old proverb,  who is sitting in a glass house should not throw with stones.

Apple's response to this problem is highly disappointing!

What do you think. Why Apple refused to repair my? I reported this issue after 11 month in regular warranty time. And I have valid Apple Care as well.

Apple has refused to answer this question as well.

Any idea if Apple do not want to get answer? There is no problem thay are not here. Maybe someone else want to answer.

I have the same issue with my MBP (dec. 2013) and already tried to get help at the Apple Store in Berlin but Apple refused to change the display. "I must have cleaned it the wrong way...", that was the answer... I owned MacBooks the last 10 years and always cleaned them the same way... so why is a notebook which costs more than 1600 Euro not resistant to a little bit of water and microfiber?

I can understand people are frustrated and are looking to vent, some differently than others. The real issue here is most of us have a defective product with improper  support from Apple. That's the real issue.  We've paid a pretty penny on what is supposed to be a premium product. I personally don't believe we got a fair shake. Ok, so it is what it is. Let's all remember it. And also remember we have choices.

Same here. rMBP (late 2013) bought on nov/2013. I never used anything than water and very soft paper. I'm angry.

And another one....Macbook Pro Retina 15" Late 2013 - Top of the screen above the camera, a 4 inch smear where the coating has rubbed off by cleaning with a lint cloth.

    Not good enough Apple!
