Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Is there a way to get our defects registered with Apple without paying a fee at the local store or by phone?  I hate paying to get dismissed, plus my nearest Apple store is about an hour away and always backed up.  BTW, I have the new iPad, May 2010 with retina display, use it all day every day.  Not so much as a speck or scratch, looks brand new.  Then there's the staingate issue with my MacBook Pro.  What a disappointment, and a very costly one.

One has to 'pay' to register a defect?!?!?

I know several people who treat their devices with the utmost care, yet they all face this issue. Apple declined all of their warranty claims. Two of them got it repaired because the defects liability law in Germany is two years and they took a lawyer.

I've been an Apple user for about ten years now, and I am very disappointed by this behaviour.

I don't know if jwang158's post was deleted by him or Apple. If the latter is true, this is really evidence of incapacity.

Apple do not remove posts. The forum moderators are they only ones who can remove them. They are either reported or removed for breaching the Terms Of Use that everyone agrees to when joining these forums. Many, many, many posts have been removed from this thread for exactly those reasons. Those that have posts removed any sent an email as to why. Apple are not here, it's just that some refuse to believe what has been stated in those terms when they joined.

    Cheers

Which part of Apple exactly is not here! The following is the first paragraph of the Terms of Use

"Ownership of Site; Agreement to Terms of Use

These Terms and Conditions of Use (the “Terms of Use”) apply to the Apple web site located at www.apple.com, and all associated sites linked to www.apple.com by Apple, its subsidiaries and affiliates, including Apple sites around the world (collectively, the “Site”). The Site is the property of Apple Inc. (“Apple”) and its licensors. BY USING THE SITE, YOU AGREE TO THESE TERMS OF USE; IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, DO NOT USE THE SITE."

Even if the moderators are not hired by (or work voluntarily for) Apple directly and this site is managed by an Apple affiliate or licensor to provide the services of this forum, I'm sure Apple is pretty much here to observe. If not every posting, THIS ONE THEY SURELY DO!

Correct is that Apple does not provide official support through this channel. But they are pretty much here!

    cool, thanks!

the deletion of my last post confirms my suspicion. Some user is also voluntary mod here, there was no other reason to delete my post.

The deletion of your immature post confirms what I said. Stop ruining the effects of this thread for others.

Firstly, you are reading the Terms And Conditions for the Apple.com site and not Apple Support Communities Terms of Use.

Read those ones. Different Sites, different terms.

Or you could read other bits and try to manipulate those.

    1. General

         5. Apple does not prescreen information submitted by users of the Site ("Submissions"). Apple retains the right, but not the responsibility, to edit or remove any Submission, including those deemed by Apple to violate the Agreement. Apple will make good faith efforts to investigate allegations that Submissions violate the Agreement but (a) makes no warranty to you that it will edit, remove, or continue to permit the display of any specific Submission, whether or not subject to such allegations, and (b) will have no liability whatsoever for editing, removing, or continuing to permit the display of any Submission whatsoever.

         6. Apple involvement. Apple may respond to questions but does not formally provide technical support on the Site. Any information that is provided by Apple or Apple employees is offered on an "AS IS" basis without warranties of any kind.

Lots of other bits you can try to twist as well. But you seem to have evidence that Apple are here in this thread so simply post your link and /or evidence to those facts and we will all be happy.

    Goodnight

    ChildOfFire,

it is useless to argue about the Terms Of Use (particular with Pete), because ALL terms of use are written in a way that they are to the advantage of the owner (naturally so). And of course some moderators will use (not to say abuse) this fact to remove postings that they feel do not fit their bill.

As Pete mentioned it - I believe to me - you could in theory sue Apple to get your postings re-instated. I'm sure I'm telling you no news that this would be as useless undertaking as arguing here about it.

And Pete is no expert in the interpretation of the Terms Of Use. He simply comments the obvious once it happened.

    Dear moderators...

No, you posted the terms of use from a different site. THAT was where you went wrong. That is pretty stupid.

Apple Support Communities Terms of Use.

are the Terms for this site, as posted many many times. You went to www.apple.com which was pretty irrelevant.

That is why you make yourself look silly.

Why not quote from the iPhone Terms Of Use? They are related to Apple as well.

    Wow Pete,

who would have thought that...we are actually in agreement (in violent agreement sort to say). I actually used the Terms Of Use link at the bottom left of this page. Would have thought it applied to this site. Maybe I'm wrong.

Despite this, even the parts you quoted above confirm that Apple is indeed here. Contrary to what you always state.

Thank you for confirming that you have been wrong all along

An honest thank you one for once :-)

Pete, don't try to wind yourself out of it. You lost the argument. Apple is here regardless of which terms of use apply.

Then provide your evidence as asked. All you posted was selected text from a totally irrelevant source. But, ahhhh yes of course, you can't, can you? I believe there are also Aliens here.

Anyhow, believe what you will and I hope it solves your issue.

    Cheers
