How do I use my credit card on file with iTunes to make song purchases rather than my iTunes account balance?

How do I use my credit card on file with iTunes to make song purchases rather than my iTunes account balance? I want to take advantage of an American Express promotion but must use my American Express card for the song purchases. When I click to buy, it automatically debits the money from my itunes account balance and doesn't give me an option to use my credit card instead.

Your balance will automatically be used when purchasing content, you can't change how purchases are billed.

You could try gifting the songs to yourself, gifting can only be done via a credit card (you can't use your balance for it) - I haven't tried it, but I think that you should be able to do it.
