Hi,

I encountered the same issue while importing mail boxes "on my Mac" that contained sub-folders.

One workaround is to import each sub folder individually, then the main folder and to rearrange them in folder and sub-folders once imported in Mail.

But a a solution exists to import everything in one action...

The solution for Mail to be able to import all the emails contained in the main folder and its sub-folders, is to delete the .mbox suffix of the main mbox.

Then import the main mbox and all your emails will appear in Mail within their folders and sub-folders.

Quit and restart Mail.

Do you see the folders?

If no, restart your Mac.

Do you see the folders?

If no,

Go to your User's Library folder. (if you don't know how to find, see this link.)

• Scroll to Mail folder.

• Select the V2 > MailData folder.

• Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)

When you open Mail it will re-index your files.

Hi, and thanks for this. i have followed your instructions but unfortunately the ‘import’ folder still does not appear. i have tried to re-import the new mailboxes and receive the message ‘you can find the imputed mailboxes in the folder named “import” in the mailboxes list” however, it does not appear..

any other suggestions?

LOL... i have a backup for my files but it seems not for the mail library folder...

to be honest i'm surprised by the app as it tells you that the folder has been created but you just cant find it.. there must be a way of repairing it... one that comes to mind is the remove then reinstallaiton of the applicaiton! but just sounds a bit drastic.

This is probably too late to help lawrence, but I was just having the same problem and this is what I found.

Like lawrence, I exported a mailbox folder to my documents folder. When I tried to import it back into mail, an "import" folder never appeared in my mailbox list - even though I was told that it was placed there. However, when I tried the same procedure with another mailbox folder - import out, export back - an "import" folder did appear with the archived emails in it.

The difference was that the first mailbox contained subfolders with the emails placed in them. Unfortunately, I selected only the mailbox, not the subfolders, so no content was actually exported (although the mail folder showed up in my documents folder). Hence there was nothing there to be imported and no "import" folder was created (although I was told otherwise).

OTOH, the second mailbox folder contained no subfolders and all mail documents were exported. So when I imported that mailbox folder, the emails appeared in an "import" mailbox as advertised. The same thing occurred with a mailbox that included subfolders - because this time, I selected each subfolder. Important to note, when the import was actually working, a window showing progress was displayed.

Bummer is that I deleted the first mailbox folder before I verified that it could be re-created. I don't see anyway to get it back.
