usb port not working mavericks macbook pro

My usb mouse does not work on my mac book pro (2.7 ghz core i7, mavericks 10.9.2). Other devices (flash drives, portable drives work) The mouse doesn't work. This happens in both ports. I have tried 3 different mice, one brand new, all of which work on every other computer. Red light is on, so the mouse is gettting power. Restart sometimes help, sometimes not. Sometimes it will just start working by itself. Sometimes it is working and then stops. Would give half my kingdom and my first born child to have a working mouse again 🙂

In case this still provides any clue to anyone, I just now got exactly that same report from wholly different kit.

I'm using macOS Sierra 10.12.3 on an iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011

I plugged in some kind of weirdo USB gizmo from a car boot sale which is not a mouse, nor anything like a mouse, although it does to a limited extent function somewhat like a mouse.

To me, this suggests there's nothing wrong with any hardware, but that my Mac doesn't correctly recognize the weirdo gizmo… which given the identical report suggests that your Macs are suffering from the same problem, which suggests there's nothing wrong with your hardware, as such.

In my case I assume the weirdo gizmo either needs a driver or just won't work with my Mac…

In your cases, it should have been that something else is interfering, which would prolly mean either a new piece of hardware, or the drivers for same…

Man, I have exactly the same problem. Was actually afraid of opening a new thread not to look like a fool 🙂

My usb optical mouse (wired) stopped functioning as well for absolutely no particular reason. Mouse in itself is perfectly ok, plugged it into an ubuntu and behaves nicely. USB ports are again ok, external drives work just fine. More than that, system information displays this:

USB OPTICAL MOUSE:

Don't know what that means but I suppose the two of them are friends. The little guy though (mouse) is completely unresponsive. No clicks, no pointer movement. No fun really 'cause on my free time I kinda like to do music and would need that dude around for that. Been using it without problems until now.

Apple, really. If there's two people already it must be true. 🙂 Honest to god I have the problem and it's real.

Please don't let 10.9.2 break something like this!

PS: Yep, resetted the s* out of him, pram, smc, all the drill. Still dead, Jim.

A longshot attempt at an answer here to a similar request for help with a mouse incompatibility: a new wired USB mouse from Meco (Hong Kong) when plugged in to a Macbook running Mavericks yields a solid internal light in the mouse, slight spasms only when mouse is moved, and seemingly operational clicking and scrolling. This is what my system says about the mouse:

Vendor ID: 0x1c4f

Version: 1.10

Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec

Manufacturer: SIGMACHIP

Current Required (mA): 98

Thanks in advance.
