Apple TV 3rd vs Blue Ray

Hi and thanks for reading.

Blue ray is 1080p.

Apple TV allows download of film at 1080 from the AppStore.

Is then AppleTV 3rd Generation capable of streaming blue ray definition films? As far as I know, Blue Ray film are very big file, and it looks strange to me tht these files can go on straming on the AppleTV from the AppleStore. Is there a kind of compression which is lowering the total resolution?

Many tnxs.

Streaming services aren't going to offer Blu-Ray quality. 1080P is the resolution, but you have to look at the bit-rate. Yes, they are going to be more compressed in order to offer decent streaming performance. As it is many have issues due to network limitations and bandwidth caps.
