When I select any clip of any timeline of any project in FCPX the program suddenly quits. I am using version 10.1.1. I have no external hard drives connected to my MacBook Pro. Is there anything else I need to add to see if someone can help? Please and thank you.

Often, misbehavior like thiat can be cured by trashing FCPX preferences. This app does the job reliably.

Thank you Russ, I've downloaded the app and I've trashed the FCPX preferences but it still crashes every time I select a clip on the timeline.
Try creating a new library. Import a couple of clips into the empty event. (Open the clips first in Quick Time to make sure they are OK.) Create a new library and edit your clips to the timeline. Select one or more to see whether that also crashes the app.

I created a new library and I imported a clip. Then when I select the library the app crashes. When I reopen it, the library disappears.
Did the clips open ok in QT?
Yes I played the clips through QT first and they worked just fine.

Thanks. Try a slight variation on trashing prefs. Use Preference Manager to trash. Empty trash and then reboot your system. See if we get different results.

Still the same result, thank you again though for helping me through this. Would you recommend perhaps deleting FCPX and then reinstalling it again?
Perhaps, but before that try this: create a new user account with admin privileges. Open FCP and import those same couple of test clips. See whether you can edit from that user.
