Turns out that that was just a temporary fix - so you may want to skip it.


To reinstall the driver you just re-run the bootcamp file that you used when you first installed the operating system.


The permanent "fix" is to adjust the auto-dim settings in windows 8. For some reason the auto-dim is calibrated wrongly so its best just to turn it off completely.
