Hi, John. Your Powerbook owner's manual says that in dual-display (extended desktop) mode, it can support an external display at up to 2048 x 1536 pixels in millions of colors, with the built-in display set at its native resolution of 1280 x 854. In video mirroring mode (both displays showing the same image) a high-resolution external display will only show 1280 x 854 pixels in the center of its screen, surrounded by a black border.
The Sony comes with a DVI-D video cable, which I assume can be connected to the DVI-Out port on your Powerbook — using an adapter if necessary. Audio is carried by a standard audio cable with 1/8" mini-phone plug (also supplied) from the Powerbook's headphone port to the display or speakers.
The fact that the SDM-P234/B has a slightly different aspect ratio from your Powerbook's display (1920/1200 = 1.6; 1280/854 = 1.5) may mean there will be a narrow black border at the top and bottom edges of of the Sony display, or it may mean the image will be stretched a little bit vertically to fill the external display. Sony may be able to tell you whether either of these things will happen. But I have to say that in my experience, Sony has always been completely clueless about Macs, and useless for any kind of tech support whatsoever when a Mac is involved. For that reason, I will probably never buy any Sony peripheral.
