Problems Playing Oblivion on MBP

Hey everyone,

Well, I installed Windows and loaded Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and the game starts out fine, and by default puts the graphics on high. But about five minutes in, a box comes up saying my graphics card stopped responding, but the game continues to work....but a bit later, every freezes, and these yellow and black vertical bars cover the entire screen.

I don't think its my graphics card, because WoW has ran just fine for about three months on the Mac OS X side of things. I tried installing the Omega drivers, but that seemed to make things worse.....any help would be very much appreciated...

Thanks

I also played Oblivion on my MBP. A few things to note:
1. The colored bars are most likely caused by memory corruption, which is caused by excessive overclocking or heat.
---Try what I did, pointing a fan at the back of your macbook as you play the game. Dried out my contacts, but it worked!

2. Oblivion's autodetect settings is the worst implementation of that I have ever used. I played mine on 2X AA, distant buildings only (not grass) and at one of the lower non-native resolutions. Played great. There is no chance that high resolution is going to work on a 600 level card; that is made for the 800s and 900s.
----Try turning down the settings and working your way up as it is playable.

3. WoW is not a very graphics intensive game like Oblivion is. Oblivion is one of those games everyone tells you to buy a 512MB graphics card for. It is very detail intensive. WoW is more processor based relatively.

4. I don't know if there was a graphics driver update, but try the new bootcamp 1.1 drivers disk and see if that updates it.

Hope that helps!

Hey again,

Well, I took your advice and lowered the graphics settings. The box still comes up saying that the card stopped responding, but the weird bars are gone, and have been replaced by glitchy graphics once in awhile. Colors change, and things get blurry, and it looks like you can see the very basic polygons before all the details are added haha.

But I haven't quite given up yet, any more advice would be great....

Thanks again
