toshiba,LaCie, etc external hard drives or ??

Getting new external hard drives for Time Macine and CCC. Done lots of research on all the drives and many have suggested portable drives like the Toshiba 2TB little giant and others for their Mac. Which I never considered.

In the past, no one suggested the use of a 2.5 drive for Time Machine backup but things change and I have asked many drive manufacturers and they state the 2.5 is as stable as their 3.5.

I know there are many schools of thought and I would appreciate any suggestions and recommendations from the Mac experts!
