How to create an account without credit card? Can't update iPhoto.

Hello all,

Today I had my computer upgraded to Maverick by an Apple technician after I had some computer woes earlier this week. It works great! However, I can now no longer access iPhoto. For some reason, updates now go through the Application Store instead of the System Update thing that I used in every other version of Mac Os X.

I don't know how common these cards are elsewhere on the world, but I know exactly zero Dutch with a credit card. Thus, all my attempts to register an account fail, as it refuses to let me skip the billing part - I don't have any of the suggested payment options, and the most common Dutch payment option, iDeal, is not included. Neither is PayPal.

I don't want to buy anything, I just want to update iPhoto.

I already have an Apple ID which I set up when I bought this computer.

I tried work-arounds, but even the ones suggested by Apple themselves don't work:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534 this still results in the same billing information screen that I can't fill in, because I have none of the options provided (see screenshot below). In some screenshots online I see that they used to have a "none" button, why on Earth did they remove this :\User uploaded file

My only other option would be to fraud the system and put in some random United States hotel adress, as I've seen suggested on various internetfora, though I'd rather not do that.

I would really like to be able to see my vacation pictures again. Again, I have no plan to buy anything from the Application Store, as I do not have any of those fancy iDevices aside from my trusty iPod classic from the Stone Age. I just want to update my iPhoto.

Thanks in advance,

-Jelle

This user, mountaingoatgirl, explains how to get a None option in your account details in the iTunes app on a Mac or PC. -

This worked for getting the account set up, thanks!

However, now I get an error when trying to update iPhoto - it tells me the application was for a different Apple ID? I guess this means more phonework just to get my vacation images back?

This is such an obvious ploy to get people to use that Application Store :\ Software Update was a fine method to use before, I hate how they switched it to this idiotic DRM.
