I can share photo streams with my friends, I can see this streams on my Mac, iPhone and iPad without any problem. But for some reason I can not join my friend photo streams, I never get the invite? Any suggestions??
Try having them resend the invitation as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmb700ea29.

What is required for it to work, iCloud I get but when my friends select my name to be invited to the streams what is needed? Only phone nr or is email needed? Any specific format of phone nr etc?
They get a error message saying(translated from Swedish)
"The invitation was not delivered.
The number that was invited can not accept
Shared photo streams"

Try going to Setting>iCloud>Photos, turn off Photo Sharing, choose Delete Photos when prompted (they will still be in iCloud). When it's done deleting, turn Photo Sharing on again, then ask your friend to resend the invitation again.
OK, but before i do that. What will happen with my existing photo streams? Will they be deleted?
You existing shared streams, whether shared by you or by others, will be deleted from your device but not from iCloud. They will download to your device again when you sign back in.

Have your friends try inviting you using an email address that is associated with your iCloud ID.

I've fopund Photostream a very akward way of sharing photos. Friends I want to see the pics are always having problems or are being asked to setup iCloud accounts. I finally gave up and use a paid service that works much better. I still REALLY miss the old mobile me galleries, they worked great.
